Newest Projects
Trying a new hand at fiction, in a new pen name because, you know, a new voice has emerged from my many years of reporting, non-fiction, and journalism. Some authors hear voices, some authors head different voices, some authors hide one voice for another (looking at you ...). It's new. It's exciting to hear a different heartbeat and rhythm in words. It's scary somewhat as well because memoir is the most personal and heartfelt of all, without the thin veneer enabled by the distance of journalism and non-fiction.
Newest finished project is Training Two: Learning the Language of Love from Two Dogs Who Share One Brain. It's a laugh a lot then cry at the sweetness that is life memoir of learning while trying to subdue a sibling/pack duo. Audible coming this year (I hope) as well as greater distribution at your favorite bookstore. Also in the works: Return Voyage, a journey book of discovery of ancestors and the courage to move on, even if it means leaving all you love behind and embracing the new (life, love, continents). More about it and a blog about writing memoir at my "fiction/memoir" website: edmontaigne-author.com. Newest of All! Prophecy; Books 1, II and III Exploring the possibilities of Episodic Fiction (because I still love Dickens) to reach both a younger audience and post-apocalyptic myth fans. Will update as soon as the first episodes and book availability hits the "stands". I'm finding the writing to be quite a bit like my work in screenplays, which in turn I'll be making available as episodic or graphic works in the very near future. Excerpts of all of these will live at Substack, forthcoming. Recent Projects
The Light Shines from the West
I've recently written a chapter on the Women of the West, exploring the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic history of this beautiful land for a book from Fulcrum Publishing and its author/publisher Robert C. Baron. So pleased to be working again with such a great team on a fascinating project which will explore the many facets that are the American West, past, present, and future. My chapter looks anew at the contributions women of all cultures and ethnic backgrounds made in carving a life out of the raw beauty of the West -- "merely women's work" -- which was the work of life and survival at home and in business for themselves. The West was and is a multi-ethnic (from 1500 forward!) land and it's time for women of all backgrounds to step out of the shadows and into the light of this mythic land.
The Stroganoff Family: 500 Years
Telling the story of the Stroganoff dynasty of Russia, set against the history of Russia. Commissioned by the Stroganoff Foundation of New York, it's a small book which crossed a lot of time and territory. Expected publication by Story Arts Media.
Wild Re*Solve:
A new project with a lot of years' consideration behind it:
Wild Re*Solve an online journal of ecosolutions and conservation initiatives that are working. Really working, really applicable, really easy, really potent. Finding a home on Substack. News soon. With the effects of the warming of our Earth and Home Refuge already upon us, it's time to share what we see at the local level, to say what we know. It's also time to look at how we as individuals and communities at the hyper-local level can work toward local amelioration, but also toward solutions and responses, not only on behalf of human interests but of our various habitats and bio-regions as well. If it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a network of villages to respond to natural 'disaster' of regional or global proportions. Wild Re*Solve will be a global source of what's happening here and now and a resource that will come to look at real and viable solutions for our local habitats, as well as for what to do next. With this gathering body of information, I welcome opportunities to work with, speak to, and to listen to local community groups and chambers of commerce about the clear and present challenges that our climate's change poses both today and ten years from today. These are time-frames well within policy, budgetary and emergency preparedness planning. It's time to broaden hyper-local response planning to include the wildlife and habitat, watershed, and food resource issues ahead. Re*Solve will seek to become an information source for the 2/3 of the world without easy access to the internet to provide solutions, ideas, and access for the environmental challenges facing communities today and tomorrow. There is so much that is successful and do-able — and able to be replicated successfully. image ©elizabethdarby 2011: Hereyoubegin.wordpress.com All Rights Reserved
